Extractivism: Artist Talk and Film Preview

Join journalist Anya Groner and filmmaker Jazmin Miller at 2pm on October 5 at the Whitney Plantation’s Antioch Baptist Church for an artist talk about their collaborative exhibit Extractivism, currently on display. Extractivism is an interactive audio/visual exhibit that tells the story of Jonesland, a 66 acre plot along the Mississippi River that sheltered generations of family members from violent exploitation. Follow its journey, from its origin as an enslaved child’s dream, to its hay day as a family homestead sitting on a multi-million dollar secret, to its current status, as a sparsely populated swath of “future industrial” river front property in an area of Louisiana so polluted it’s called Cancer Alley. Following the artist talk, Jazmin will preview her forthcoming documentary film Jonesland.
