Whitney Plantation Hosts 4th Annual Juneteenth Freedom Festival

Categories: ,

Whitney Plantation will host its 4th Annual Juneteenth Freedom Festival on Saturday, June 13, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the historic site in Wallace, Louisiana. Admission is free with registration.

This free, family-friendly event marks Juneteenth, which commemorates June 19, 1865, when news of emancipation finally reached enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. The festival will feature live music, panel discussions, food vendors, an artist marketplace, and guided and self-guided tours of the plantation grounds.

Media are invited to attend. Interviews with Whitney Plantation historians and event organizers are available upon request.

Festival highlights include live performances, discussions with historians and community leaders, an artist and artisan marketplace featuring local Black creators, and the region’s best food trucks serving local cuisine.

“Juneteenth is a time to reflect on the truth of our history while honoring the culture of Black communities,” said Director of Research Dr. Ibrahima Seck at Whitney Plantation. “This festival is a way for people to learn and remember their history and connect as a community.”
