OPENING SOON ON MARCH 21, 2026: Whitney Plantation invites you to experience our newest exhibit, Amongst Ourselves: Resisting Slavery at Whitney Plantation, now open in the Visitor Center.
The exhibit is free in our Visitor Center and open to the public, no tickets or registration required. Guided and self-guided tours of the Whitney Plantation grounds are available for an additional fee.
This exhibit explores how enslaved people resisted bondage in both bold and everyday ways—through escape, kinship, sabotage, cultural survival, and more. It honors the courage, strategy, and humanity of those who defied a system built to erase them.
Developed in partnership with The Ethel & Herman L. Midlo Center for New Orleans Studies at the University of New Orleans, the exhibit features research by UNO students, archival materials from Whitney Plantation, and interactive digital tools powered by Freedom on the Move, a project based at Cornell University.
Whether through truancy or testimony, defiance or remembrance, resistance was a constant. Amongst Ourselves invites you to bear witness.
